Luke M. and his wife both work in the education field in Lloydminster. They moved to Saskatchewan from Ontario because of the lower cost of living and dreams of owning a home. They worked hard, saved every penny they could for their down payment, with only one modest vehicle loan between the two. Another vehicle is paid in full. In February, they went looking for approval, but do not qualify for a $350,000 mortgage because of the new rules. Both are in full-time continuous contracts. Their incomes increase year-after-year, and would be more than capable to make payments if the rates increased. Their mortgage would be less then rent. They did all the right things, but the new rules have them out of the housing market.
